Intimate relationship is a challenge to every one.  It requires a skill set that is generally not a well practiced yet is vital to the success of our most important relationships.  What is it about these relationships with wives, lovers, and children that challenge us like no other relationship?  How is it that we can feel more successful in every other relationship in our lives, than in those relationship where we most long to feel connected.

We are hardwired and destined for connection.  We know (because these sort of things are studied) that we live longer, healthier, and happier in connection.  We are more resilient in the face of stress.  We are less fearful.  We even have a greater pain tolerance when we are feeling close to someone we have an emotional attachment to.
